U.S. News ranks UW–Madison online master’s degrees among the top

New rankings from U.S. News & World Report cite the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s online master’s degrees in education and engineering as some of the best in the nation.

A recent article from UW–Madison highlights the university’s No. 3 ranking for the Best Online Master’s in Education Programs and No. 17 ranking for the Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs for 2025.

The online master’s programs in the UW School of Education and College of Engineering also ranked highly for veterans — education was No. 1, and engineering was No. 11.

Two specialty programs also performed well in the categories of Best Online Educational Administration Programs (which includes UW’s master’s in sports leadership and its Wisconsin Idea Principal Preparation Program) and Best Online Master’s in Civil Engineering Programs, ranking Nos. 2 and 5, respectively.

Dr. Jeffrey Russell, UW’s vice provost for lifelong learning and dean of continuing studies, says in the article that the rankings reflect the university’s goal to increase educational opportunities for more students.

“A top priority for us has been to make programs accessible to people who are busy with jobs or families. We’ve expanded our menu of flexible degree programs that focus on building skills for those who hope to make progress in their jobs or prepare for new careers.”
