Help your students succeed by learning how to design effective and engaging online courses with the Professional Certificate in Online Education program.

Is this program right for you?

Sometimes referred to as distance or remote teachers, the need for online teachers is on the rise. The Professional Certificate in Online Education program teaches you proven strategies for designing effective and engaging online courses that will help your students succeed.

Designed for faculty and instructors who already have some online teaching experience, this program will enhance your knowledge, skills and credibility in teaching online. You’ll cover topics like contextual factors in online education, essential teaching and learning principles, and the effects of technology on education at a distance. You’ll also learn how to write learning objectives, create online activities, design online assessments and manage your course.

Courses are designed to be collaborative, so you will make connections with other professionals in your field. However, you will learn how to apply new knowledge and skills to your own teaching or design needs, reflecting your unique students, subject area and context. Throughout the course, you will create a course planning document that can be immediately applied within your professional context.

This totally online, flexible program is offered four times throughout the year and consists of ten modules. Students typically spend five to seven hours a week on course content and assignments, but this varies from person to person. The certificate culminates in a module lesson plan that demonstrates your online course development and delivery skills — and can be shared with current or potential employers or supervisors.
