Part-Time Master of Social Work fits your schedule

Corin Tubridy knew it wouldn’t be easy to pursue an advanced degree in social work. She had been out of school for a while, and she had a family. She also had a full-time social work job she needed to keep.

But getting her master’s degree turned out to be easier than she expected, thanks to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Part-Time Master of Social Work Program. It allowed her to take classes on weekends, as well as taking them on the UW-Eau Claire campus, close to her home.

“It can be tough to balance school, full-time employment, and full-time parenting,” Tubridy says, “but the staff of the part-time program really work with you to make the program fit around your schedule and with your family.”

The Part-Time Master of Social Work Program is designed for recent graduates of a social work bachelor’s program; social workers seeking to move into supervisory roles; and those looking for a new career path. It’s a flexible, commuter-friendly program that offers Saturday classes at both the UW-Madison and UW-Eau Claire campuses.

Making a difference

Tubridy appreciated the support she received from fellow students in the program.

“We really have each other’s backs, we tell each other jokes, and we’re there to cry when the stress of everything is getting to be too much,” she says. “I’ve found great friendships and a great support system that I think will stick with me beyond graduation.”

UW-Madison’s Part-Time Master of Social Work program helped Tubridy move into a management position, where she felt better prepared to pursue her passion in life: helping vulnerable people in the community.

“I don’t think [a leadership role] is something I would have considered three, four years ago. I would have said, ‘There’s no way I want to look at that higher level. I just want to work with clients.’ But my education and my experiences with UW-Madison have broadened my viewpoint, allowing me to see what kind of difference I can make.”
