With a focus on the full ASHRAE Existing Building Commissioning Process, this certificate can help you distinguish your capabilities and highlight your unique career paths.

Certificate earners typically include commissioning authorities and project managers; architects, engineers, contractors and related team members; facility owners, managers, operating and maintenance staff.

Upon successful completion of the coursework and exam, you will earn the Existing Building Commissioning Process Provider (EBCxP) certification. Additional certifications are available to those with project experience who currently hold our other QCxP certification.

Registration information

How you'll learn

  • Complete one 2-day online course, and one 2-day in-person course on the UW–Madison campus.
  • Courses may be taken in any order. Enrollment in the examination requires completion of the two required courses.
  • Pass the certification orientation and examination to become an accredited Existing Building Commissioning Process Provider (EBCxP).
  • The certification is valid for five years before renewal.

  • Part 1 – Existing Building Commissioning
  • Part 2 – Fundamentals of HVAC
  • Part 3 – Scenario-based section based on a practical existing building situation
